ECOPETROL


Ecopetrol SA (BVC: ECOPETROL NYSE: EC), the oil company of Colombia, is now a mixed economy company dedicated to explore, produce, transport, refine and market hydrocarbons. It is the largest company in Colombia and the fourth largest oil company in Latin America.


Ecopetrol operates nearly 100 areas of oil and gas production directly and another 120 in association with 35 companies. It has a 5559 km network of pipelines and pipelines to transport oil from production sites to refineries, ports of export and consumption centers. The total sum of networks in the country 8445 miles.








Creation of the company

Reverting to the Colombian state of the De Mares Concession, 25 August 1951, gave rise to the Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos.


Ecopetrol undertook activities in the chain of oil as an Industrial and Commercial Company of the State, responsible for administering the hydrocarbon resources of the nation, and raised on the extent to which other concessions reversed and entered its operation. In 1961 he assumed direct control of the refinery in Barrancabermeja.
